Courtney Hope is an actress, model, writer, fitness trainer/enthusiast, and philanthropist. She believes in the power of human connection and empathetic healing through honesty, broadening perspectives, openness, and artistry. Courtney has been a part of Breaking the Chains Foundation for four years as a board member and celebrity ambassador. Having suffered from an eating disorder in her late teens/early twenties, her recovery has led her to pursuing a life of education in fitness, nutrition, and healthy living. She stars as ‘Sally Spectra’ on the long-running CBS series The Young and the Restless, having played the role since 2017 starting on The Bold and the Beautiful.
I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa when I was 21, when I worked as a model. I felt tired, exhausted, and unhappy. I didn’t even think I had anorexia, I thought it only could exist in movies. It was hard to meet the reality in 2012 when I had to stay in the hospital so doctors could watch me and the new diet that helped me bring my energy back. The hardest was dealing with a new body image when my weight became higher. I have been in remission for ten years. Now I am a style coach. I help those women who struggle with their body image and self-esteem so they stop judging themselves for their bodies and start to wear anything they want with full self-expression through self-love inside out.
My name is Jacqueline Gomez Mancilla, and I am honored to be a speaker at the upcoming NEDA event. I am 38 years old and did not know how to share or speak my truth until I was 28. My struggles with eating disorders began when I was 11. I always thought that speaking my truth was my road to freedom from my eating disorder. However, recently, I have become a blessed first-time Mama to a beautiful baby boy, and with this new role has come new challenges with my weight, and my body, and relearning the lessons of my past. Therapy, family support, friends, and my continued belief in myself help every day in this new chapter of my life. I am actively involved in being more aware of myself, my needs, and my new sense of self.
I look forward to sharing more about my journey with all of you at the NEDA walk. Thank you for allowing me a space to share my story.
